The Bird Lady
The Read Raw lot hit Lochwinnoch on Friday night (and Saturday night as well, but without me) for the launch of Betty McKellar's 'Murmurations'. Betty's an old friend, and a lot of her poetry comes from the surrounding areas of Lochwinnoch and Murshiel Park. Not for nothing is she known as 'The Bard of Lochwinnoch'. She's had several collections out - in fact, I edited one called 'Widdershins', based on local myths and legends. She kicked off the readings, and I was first of the guest poets, reading 'Sea Eagles on Portree', trying carefully not to catch the eye of Jack Hastie. Me? Reading a nature poem? Still, it was good to see the Shredder, and catch up with him and some others over a cup of the blackest coffee ever, andthen a pint in 'The Brown Bear'.
